Song #8 Ouch Stop That!

PLYMOUTH ROCK (CONT’D)
They placed me next to the Liberty Pole,
and this became the meeting spot
for the town’s important meetings and protests.
I was glad I was able to be
a symbol of freedom and loved when people talked
about my history of helping the Pilgrims.

STUDENT 9
You must have loved your new spot in town
and being able to see all the townspeople
every day!

PLYMOUTH ROCK
It was wonderful at first.
In addition to being a part of
the townspeople’s meetings, visitors would travel
many miles to get a glimpse of me.
Unfortunately,
some of these visitors were greedy.

STUDENT 1
How were they greedy?

PLYMOUTH ROCK
After learning my story,
they wanted to take a piece home with them.
Many visitors would bring chisels
to pick off little pieces of me!

STUDENT 2
Didn’t you tell them to stop!

PLYMOUTH ROCK
I did, but they didn’t listen.
They just kept chiseling away
and I was becoming smaller every day.
